After suffering heavy defeats in the SLPP lower level elections, the Aspirants Alliance have taken the SLPP to court to stop the party from continuing the lower level elections.
Yumkella, Keilie, JOB, Timbo and others have sponsored three of their supporters namely Alusine Bangura, Alex Kargbo and Victor Sheriff who filed an injunction application against the SLPP to put on hold the regional elections slated for Saturday 10th December.
Confirmed sources revealed that the court action by the Aspirants Alliance was agreed upon by the Aspirants in a meeting few days ago attended by Chief Kapen.
One of the sources went on “In the meeting all the flagbearer aspirants looked demoralised. Mr Yumkella and Mr Benjamin came up with the idea that they should take the party to court to stop the regional elections and the NEC meeting. After a lengthy discussion, Alpha Timbo advised them that they should use the names of their supporters and not their names because it will damage their reputations.”
However, the court papers which have been posted on social media have been criticised by majority of SLPP members. One Mabinty Bangura who disclosed she lives in Makeni said “These Alliance members are enemies of SLPP. They don’t care about this party except for their selfish desires. I feel ashamed to call Yumkella and Timbo my northern brothers. They are a disgrace.”
Edward Cole, a young generation member in Freetown said “How do they (aspirants of the alliance) want to lead this party by taking us to court? All I see from them is just hatred for Bio and their evil plans to keep this party in opposition. They are a bunch of evil people.”
A 70 year old Pa Alusine who has been supporting SLPP since his youth days said about the injunction “I blame Kapen. He is the worst chairman I have seen in this party. He is now part of the Alliance and they are being sponsored by APC to destroy SLPP. They will never succeed because this party will come to power in 2018.”
There has been no official reaction to the injunction application as the National Officers are preparing to hold the regional elections tomorrow. A senior party source said that the regional elections will continue tomorrow, Saturday 10th December as planned. The party source said that they are not aware or being served by any court order. He confirmed that the authority to stop the lower level elections lies with SLPP NEC and that was expressed in the Supreme Court judgement.
Shame on Yumkella wit his APC supporters planning to hyjack De slpp party
