*Sylvia Blyden Defies Presidential Order*‼

*By Tejan Cole*
_It has come to the notice of observers and political pundits that the actions of the Minister of Social Welfare, Gender and Children’s Affairs, Dr. Sylvia O. Blyden are akin to defying President Ernest Bai Koroma’s orders for ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) to cut down at least 50% (fifty percent) on all expenditures including travel allowances, per diem, fuel, stationeries, workshop expenditures and the like._
_It could be recalled that in October this year, the Government of President Ernest Bai Koroma due to the economic slowdown as a result of the Ebola aftermath and the significant drop in the price of iron ore which greatly affected the country’s earning power in terms of foreign exchange, had good reason to announce a major cut down on government expenditure as a measure to address the slowdown to re-track the country’s economy._
_However, it appears that all of President Koroma’s Cabinet Ministers adhered to President Koroma’s orders save Dr. Sylvia Blyden who according to sources at the Ministry of Social Welfare out-rightly rejected the order for reasons best known to herself._
_The sources maintained that recently, without any recourse to adhering to the austerity measures put in place by the Government, Dr. Blyden took upon herself to unilaterally request Daily Service Allowance (DSA) inclusive of full fuel allocation, per diem of ten million Leones cash which she called ‘miscellaneous’ among other cash and logistical benefits for herself, she took with her 5 (five) vehicles. Her official vehicle, plus another 2 (two) for her security, the national Ebola survivors team using another 2 (two) vehicles and a hand-picked team for a trip to the provinces; a trip which could have been accomplished for far much less according to accounting experts._
_It could further be recalled that prior to the announcement of the austerity measures, Dr. Blyden had been lambasting the government for allegedly sidelining her with regards allocating funds to her ministry. She had literally gone on all out war against the government using her newspaper Awareness Times to unfairly and maliciously malign Ministry of Finance officials, the Secretary to Cabinet, and a host of other government officials whom she falsely believed were working against her. President Koroma was not even spared in her onslaught._
_Therefore, many people are now asking whether Dr. Sylvia Blyden is working for the APC Government or against it. Because if she were working for the APC Government and for President Koroma who appointed her to the office she currently holds, then surely her actions would be totally different and not seeming bent or twisted to give the government a bad name and by extension President Koroma._
_One political observer said: “President Koroma must stop pampering Sylvia Blyden (if he is) otherwise, one morning he will wake up to discover she had literally toppled his government through her devious antics and bad press about the APC government.”_
