In Freetown, a High Court presided over by Justice Komba Kamanda refused Mohamed Rapel Sannoh bail and remanded him at the Male Correctional Center on Pademba Road.
Sannoh is accused of engaging in an act of sexual penetration with an eleven year old girl (11-year-old)
He is brought to court under the 2012 sexual offenses Act.
The State Prosecutor, A. Vandi Koroma alleged that the accused on the 22nd January 2015 engaged in an act of sexual penetration of his victim.
Prosecution witness had told the court that when 11 years old Mary (not her real name) was called by the accused to his house, little did she know what was in store for her.
“Being a regular visitor to the house, she used to come from her school to see the accused to ask for one thing or the other as a child who always respect and goes after anyone who would encourage her, she went straight to his room and asked him for one thousand Leones,” PW2 had told the Magistrate Court during preliminary investigation.
The accused is said to have told his victim that he can only give her money this time if she can “play” with him. With that, the 23-years old man violated the little girl. After that, it was a regular affair until her parents detected when her playmate became suspicious and started called her “married woman” and decided to investigate.
Lawyer Sonia Bobanie-Browne from the Legal Aid Board is representing the accused who may be sentenced to 15 years imprisonment if found guilty by the court.
Meanwhile, the trial has been adjourned to Thursday 13th October 2016.
In another development, Justice Kamanda remanded Aruna Morlai Conteh for allegedly murdering his girlfriend Aminata Kargbo in 2015 at Regent village in Freetown.
