The Complaints, Discipline and Internal Investigation Department (CDIID) of the SLP is investigating three Police officers for alleged neglect of duty following the death in custody of a murder suspect, Aiah Lavalie who hanged himself in a cell at the Motema Police Station on the 17th September, 2016.
According to the Police media office in Kenema, the three officers under investigation are Inspector E.Y Matturi, Police Constable 11693 Pemagbie and Police Constable 9250 John all of whom were on duty when the suspect committed suicide in cell.
According to the findings of the CDIID entailed in a correspondence dated 29th September addressed to the Inspector-General of Police, Francis Allieu Munu and signed by the Regional Coordinator of CDIID, East, Inspector Alimamy Libo Bangura, Inspector Matturi was the Shift Commander, PC Pemagbie the Lock Up Officer and PC John the Station Orderly when the suicide incident took place.
The CDIID findings also stated that Aiah Lavalie was never tortured in custody though he was isolated in a separate cell on the advice of other inmates because he was disturbing and that post-mortem result states that Lavalie died by hanging.
The three Police officers are being probed for alleged neglegence of duty.
The now deceased murder suspect was arrested on the 16th September, 2016, for allegedly killing Sahr Ngauja who, according to the deceased suspect, stole bush meat from his native trap.
