Bonthe youths languishing in prison

*SILENT TEARS*

Following that bizarre incident in Bonthe (the clash between irate Poro society youths and the military), few arrests were made and those arrested accused of riotous conduct. Days have passed, weeks have gone by and these accused guys are still in remand. According to the constitution of our beloved country – Sierra Leone, an accused person is to be charged to court within seventy two (72) hours of arrest for misdemeanors or within 10 days for suspected felonies.

Well I don’t know if Bonthe is no longer part of Sierra Leone, because people have been suffering in remand close to a month and for no obvious reason have not been charged to court.

Speaking from the humanitarian point of view, it is not only just but it is as well right for these guys to know what their fate is (guilty or not guilty) and it should not take forever.

I know you might be thinking “why should I border when am not affected in any way”, but no one knows tomorrow. The silent cries and tears of those unjustly treated are streaming down.

Let us be the voices of the voiceless not spectators to wrong being perpetrated.
